Aspiring dentist completes her work experience at Queensway

Georgia reviews her works experience at Queensway Dental Clinic.
The versatility of dentistry became very apparent in just three days at Queensway Dental Clinic where I shadowed team members from orthodontic specialists to maxillo-facial surgeons.
The first day was spent with Dr Lane and Dr Averley where I saw many patients and witnessed a variety of different procedures from general check-ups to crown fittings in a private setting. The following day, I was in the orthodontics department with Dr Deeming where I witnessed countless confidence building procedures, and the staff’s compassion particularly regarding anxious patients was indisputable.
Also seeing hands-on the improvement that braces made was interesting as I saw many patients at different stages of their treatment. My final day was split, in the morning I watched dental implants being fitted and saw the demanding task of sterilisation; however the afternoon was spent in the dental lab where I observed as dentures were created and altered, the skill and precision of the dental technicians really highlighted the importance of manual dexterity and resilience in this career.
My highlight of placement was witnessing the implant surgery, which was an incredible experience because within such a small amount of time the patient’s smile and confidence had been restored, and it required the advice and cooperation of the entire dental team. So more importantly, Queensway Dental Clinic showed me the significance of teamwork and I can only hope that when/if I become dentist I would be able to work within a team as brilliant and welcoming as theirs.
After my work experience placement I’m excited to return to school and continue with my A-Level studies and persevere in my pursuit to become a dentist.
