Dental laboratory offers a new solution for partial denture wearers

Queensway Dental Laboratory in Billingham is now able to provide clear flexible frameworks and tooth coloured clasps for partial dentures, which have been designed and manufactured in-house. These are now available as a private option for patients, as an alternative to the conventional metal option.
The new ‘invisible denture’ provided by Queensway Dental Clinic’s Laboratory, has been developed as an alternative to metal frameworks, which have been the traditional, conventional option for partial denture wearers.
The invisible framework is created using an injection moulding technique, with a clear, flexible material. These new dental frameworks fabricated in the laboratory, are ideal for patients who wish to wear something discreet with no metal clasps visible.
John Blenkey, Prosthetics Laboratory Manager, designs and constructs the clear flexible frameworks. He said: “At Queensway Dental Clinic we see hundreds of patients each year who have chrome cobalt metal denture frames, but patients often complain of the metal showing in their mouth. This is why we decided to work on a solution. We now use the clear flexible framework within our Clinic and patients have been thrilled with the results.”
Chrome frameworks are often the best to wear because they can be made thin, and are very durable. However, for patients who do not like the appearance of metal in their mouths or who may have a metal allergy, clear frameworks are an exciting new alternative.
John goes on to explain the new product: “This technique has been two years in development and we’re delighted with the results. We’re fortunate that our laboratory has the latest cutting edge technology available and because we work closely with dentists, we can pioneer products that will give patients an option.”
Christine from Middlesbrough said, “After witnessing my parents struggle to adapt to dentures in the 1960′s, it was with some trepidation that I went along to Queensway for a consultation. I had about five appointments for impressions and fittings for the new clear, partial dentures and dental frameworks. The denture was fitted with tooth coloured clips which are undetectable compared to those with metal ones. It has been a revelation, not only for my eating but also for smiling. I hadn’t realised that when I smiled I used to keep my lips pressed together, an unconscious reaction to a gappy smile. The whole framework is lightweight, secure, colour matched to my own teeth and best of all for me, undetectable."
“When I look back to my parents’ ill-fitting, metal framework dentures, which used to cause mouth ulcers and problems with food getting trapped under the palate, mine couldn’t be more different. It is an excellent fit with hardly any movement, no intrusive palate and no obvious metal clips.”
