It's been estimated that up to 30% of adults will experience Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) at some point in their lives.
TMD is a problem which affects the 'chewing' muscles and the joints between the lower jaw and the base of the skull and can cause pain, jaw joint clicking or popping, and difficulties eating.
Treatment for TMD can vary from physiotherapy to more complex surgery, however untreated it can have a profound effect on a person’s quality of life.
Education and training ...
Our clinical team regularly take part in further training and education to allow us to provide an extensive range of treatment options for some of the most complex cases, including treatment for bite and TMD problems.
One of the most recent accomplishments our team have made is graduating from the KOIS centre in Seattle. The many miles travelled and hours spent training as part of the KOIS Programme provided the team with clear protocols for managing complexity in dental care, along with the skills needed to carefully manage some of the most challenging reconstruction of patients’ dental health. Following this training partners, Dr Paul Averley, Dr Ian Lane, Dr Uzma Olbrich and Dr Will Carter have been able to implement a much more comprehensive assessment for our patients based on a practical risk profile.
This, along with using appliances such as the KOIS deprogrammer, to carry out a thorough bite assessment means we are able to provide treatment based on evidence gathered about your condition. This evidence can then be transferred in to planning and treatment for all patients, including those suffering with complex bite and jaw problem problems.
"My chiropractor referred me to Dr Ian Lane at Queensway Dental Clinic as I have suffered for a long time with TMJ and had restricted movement in my jaw with lots of clicking going on. Dr lane examined me and told me he could certainly help me and recommended The Kois Deprogrammer. I had to wear this for at least 3 weeks before I went back to Dr Lane. Well the results were great I could open my mouth properly and the clicking had stopped I just wanted to wear it all the time but unfortunately that's not the idea if it. I now wear a hard acrylic splint at night on my teeth which has also helped. The service I received from Dr Lane and Queensway was great from start to finish, I cannot thank them enough for sorting my jaw out and having the feeling that somebody at last knows what they are doing. I would not hesitate to recommend Queensway Dental Clinic to family or friends it’s a brilliant service and place to go and everybody is so friendly."
