Apr 25, 2014

With the Fred Whitton challenge just two weeks away, practice partner Ian Lane and fellow team members from the Bay Horse Velo (BHV) (pictured right) have been training hard. This year the team are raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of former team member, Kevin Dobson. Greatly missed by all of the team, Kevin, sadly passed away on the 9th March 2014.
Twenty one members of the team, including Ian, will take part in the challenge based in the Lake District. Billed as the toughest cycle sportive in the UK the participants are faced with 112 miles and 13,000 ft of climbing (7 major climbs) with the hardest climb of Hardknott pass 100 miles in to the challenge (33% gradient).
So far the team have achieved 75% of their target and raised £9825 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Along with raising money for Macmillan Ian has set himself his own personal challenge. Ian said “Last year I completed the race 2 minutes off an elite finish time. Completing the 112 miles and 13,000ft of climbing up and over the Lake Districts 7 highest roads in 7.02hrs!! In the year of my 40th birthday I have set myself up for trying to finish this race in under 7 hours!”
We are proud to be one of the sponsors of the team and would like to wish Ian and the Bay Horse Velo good luck in completing the challenge.
