The importance of good oral health in National Smile Month
Jun 6, 2013

As part of National Smile Month from the 20th May – 20th June, Queensway Dental Clinic in Billingham is encouraging patients to take special care of their oral health by following some simple steps.
The dental team from Queensway Dental Clinic is highlighting the need for making small lifestyle changes, to help change the North East’s oral health standards for the better.
National Smile Month is the largest oral health campaign in the UK. It aims to raise awareness of the simple steps to look after your mouth’s health.
Aimee Briggs, Dental Therapist, Queensway Dental Clinic said: “A few small changes can make a big difference in the long run. National Smile Month provides the perfect opportunity to deliver the British Dental Health Foundation’s three key messages: firstly for good oral health brush for two minutes twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Secondly cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks, finally visit the dentist regularly – as often as recommended. Prevention really is the best form of defence. If people follow these simple steps, they would benefit from better oral health.”
To show their commitment to the importance of preventative dentistry, Queensway Dental Clinic has invested in a dedicated oral health promotion room with facilities to run sessions for both children and adult patients teaching tooth brushing techniques as well as giving advice on diet, smoking cessation and other important oral health issues.
In addition to this advice provided at the Clinic, to help support National Smile Month Queensway will be raising awareness in the local community, a Dentist from Queensway will visit a local school in June to chat to pupils about their teeth and show them in a fun, engaging way how important it is to look after their oral health from an early age. A video on preventative dentistry will also be filmed later this month the clinic which will feature on the website. Queensway will also have a stand at the Billingham ‘It’s a Knock-Out Challenge and Family Fun day’ which will take place at Bede College on Saturday 15th June.
