Dr Rebecca Hierons
Specialist in Oral Surgery & Aesthetician
GDC NUMBER: 69303
BDS FBDS (Lpool), FDSRCS (Edin), Dip Con Sed (Ncl)
DARLINGTON/ BISHOP AUCKLAND PRACTICE
Rebecca qualified from Liverpool in Dentistry in 1993 and obtained her postgraduate Fellowship in Dental Surgery from Edinburgh in 1996. She worked in Chester, Sunderland & latterly as an Associate Specialist in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Newcastle General Hospital over a period of 16 years, during which time she gained extensive experience in the field of oral and facial trauma.
In 2010, she left the hospital to work for Queensway Dental Clinic and completed a postgraduate diploma in conscious dental sedation at Newcastle University in June 2011. She also has an interest in teaching and has been an Advanced Trauma and Life Support (ATLS®) instructor in the past. She regularly teaches post-graduate Oral Surgery and is due to take over the Presidency of the British Association of Oral Surgeons in September 2017.
She was instrumental in the inauguration of Queensway Skin Clinic in 2012 (having started her aesthetics training in 2010) and completed the FDGP (UK) Masterclass in Facial aesthetics with distinction in 2015. She was lucky enough to train with a number of internationally renowned clinicians including Mrs Sabrina Shah-Desai, Dr Kuldeep Minocha and Dr Tapan Patel and is currently doing the Level 7 Certificate in Injectables. She is also part of the ZO UK Academy having trained both with Dr Zein Obagi and Dr Rachael Eckel.
What do you enjoy most about working for Queensway?
Queensway is all about delivering the best patient care we possibly can. We carry out gold standard treatment, there are no corners cut and the practice is full of specialists. all of whom are outstanding in their particular area of dentistry. That is why I love working there and would never consider working anywhere else.
Where would a patient usually find you in the practice?
I am in our branch surgery in Darlington 3 days a week removing teeth, roots and wisdom teeth as well as carrying out other surgical procedures under local anaesthetic and sedation. This is an NHS service whereby local dentists refer patients who need specialist oral surgery treatment. I also do some private oral surgery and provide a full private aethetics service (botulinum toxin, dermal fillers and medical grade skin care) in Darlington and Billingham.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
For an Oral Surgeon, the highest accolade is when someone says “That wasn’t half as bad as I thought it would be - I didn’t feel a thing!” and they walk out with a smile on their face. It makes me feel great to turn a potentially horrible experience into a semi-pleasant one for someone. As far as aesthetic treatments are concerned, I love helping people to be the best version of themselves they can be and walk out feeling beautiful, healthy and confident about themselves and their skin.
What do you enjoy doing out of work?
I most enjoy spending time with my husband, Charlie and our two children, Cat and Dan. I am a slow but enthusiastic runner (Charlie, Dan and I do the parkrun most Saturdays) and a passionate cook - Cat and Dan love to help, especially with baking. We are all big Bake Off fans!
What makes you smile?
My lovely family, baking the perfect cake and working at Queensway, of course!
